Privacy policy

meum lingua is an iPhone app operated by Meum GmbH, Zürich, Switzerland (UID CHE-382.642.011, "we"). This policy explains which data we process when you use the app and this website. We follow the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What we store
- Account: your email address. Sign-in codes and session tokens are stored only in hashed form; sign-in codes expire after 15 minutes.
- Learning profile: the languages you speak and learn, your level, your interests and your chosen news sources.
- Vocabulary backup: the words you are learning and how well you know them, so your progress survives a new phone.
- Usage counters: how many AI-powered actions you used per day, to apply the limits of your plan.
- Subscription status: product, expiry date and Apple's transaction ID. Payment details stay with Apple; we never see them.
What we process but don't keep
- Article text: the app opens articles on your iPhone — free articles, or paid ones through your own newspaper login — and sends the text to our server to create your adapted version. The original text is not stored. Adapted versions are kept in a cache for up to 14 days, and only returned for the same text.
- Words you look up, what you write, and transcripts of what you say are sent to our AI provider to generate explanations, corrections and replies.
- Your voice never leaves your iPhone. Speech recognition runs on the device (or Apple's speech service where on-device recognition isn't available for a language).
Newspaper subscriptions
When you connect a subscription, you log in on the newspaper's own website inside the app. Your password goes only to the newspaper. The login is stored in the app's web storage on your iPhone so you stay signed in; we never receive or store your newspaper credentials. You can disconnect a newspaper at any time in the app, which deletes that login from your iPhone.
